Former Commerzbank Chief Risk Officer Dr Stefan Schmittmann to assist Schultze & Braun as of counsel

Munich. Former Commerzbank Chief Risk Officer Dr Stefan Schmittmann is to strengthen the advisory practices of Schultze & Braun, a leading provider of insolvency administration services and advice to companies in financial difficulty. As well as assisting Schultze & Braun as an of counsel, Dr Schmittmann will be actively involved in engagements, bringing his knowledge and experience to bear in a further significant enhancement to the quality and depth of Schultze & Braun's advisory work.

Dr Stefan Schmittmann was born in Munich in 1952 and studied economics at the renowned University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, where he also completed his doctorate. After several years as a research associate at the Institut für Bankwirtschaft at the University of St. Gallen, in 1986 Dr Schmittmann moved to the Bayerische Vereinsbank, one of the predecessor banks to Hypovereinsbank. Here his responsibilities included management accounting as well as commercial and retail banking and lending business, latterly as unit director and Chief Credit Risk Officer.

In 2004, Dr Schmittmann was appointed Management Board Spokesman of Vereins- und Westbank AG in Hamburg and oversaw the organisation's complete integration into the Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank. Within Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG, in 2006 he was promoted to Member of the Board of Directors, where he was responsible for the organisation's corporate banking and corporate real estate business. At the same time he served as a member of the Executive Committee of UniCredit Corporate Division.

In 2008, Dr Schmittmann moved to Commerzbank AG, where he served as Chief Risk Officer and as a member of the Commerzbank AG Board. He left Commerzbank of his own accord in 2015 and since then has worked as a supervisory board member and freelance consultant.
